DSSA Election Controversy in Malda

MALDA 24 AUG: About eight zone secretaries under District School Sports Association (DSSA), Malda today demonstrated in front of the office of District Officer of Physical Education (DOPE) alleging that the election of DSSA has been deferred in vested interest by the outgoing secretary of DSSA. Sub-divisional School Sports Association of Chanchal Mr Safirur Rahaman, on behalf of many protesting teachers, complained that the election of DSSA is being deferred citing a number of lame excuses and innumerable innocent students are being deprived of their right to participate in games and sports.

Old Malda zone secretary Mr Niranjan Murmu, Habibpur representative Mr Pushpendu Mishra and many others informed that the election of DSSA was scheduled to be held on 6 June as per the notification of the secretary of the outgoing DSSA committee. They alleged that all of a sudden they were informed that the election was deferred on the basis of a complaint lodged by Mr Muklesur Rahaman who happens to be the brother of the assistant secretary of the outgoing committee. According to Mr Rahaman a few voters in the final voters’ list cease to be the voters as their schools are no more affiliated by DSSA.

On the basis of the complaint of Mr Rahaman and vide an order from DM, Malda the DI of Schools (Secondary) Mr Chinmai Sarkar requested DOPE Mr Somnath Dutta on 30 July to work for DSSA in consultation with an ad hoc committee comprising the Project Director of DRDA, DIS(Secondary) and DIS(Primary), Malda. The protesting teachers today alleged that DOPE is still working taking the outgoing secretary of DSSA into confidence which is ‘unjustified’. In a petition to the DM, Malda the alleging zone secretaries complained that despite the memo from DIS (SE) purchased sports and other materials spending few lakh rupees.

DOPE, Malda Mr Somnath Dutta said that his primary objective is to restore an environment for games and sports for the children. (To be continued)
