Rahul Gandhi May Visit Malda Soon

MALDA, 8 SEPT: The general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and icon of youth Congress Mr Rahul Gandhi may visit Malda in September as a part of his errand to get back the strong footage of Congress in West Bengal. The office secretary of Malda district Congress Mr Rabiul Islam today said that the district Congress has primarily been intimated about the ensuing visit of Mr Rahul Gandhi which might be confirmed soon. “Mr Gandhi may come to Malda after visiting Darjeeling in the third week of this month to encourage the Congress workers and to supervise the organisational election of youth Congress in this region”, said the Mr Rabiul Islam. This should be recalled that Mr Rahul Gandhi addressed a public meeting of Congress on 6 September and gave a call to strengthen the party in West Bengal independently. This has been learnt Mr Gandhi himself expressed a desire to commence an extensive drive to rejuvenate Congress in the state which may start from North Bengal where Congress has a traditional support base.

Trinamul Congress of late is gathering a sharp momentum in Malda, which has always been regarded as a strong fort for Congress. A number of important Congress leaders in Malda like Mrs Sabitri Mitra, Mr Goutam Chakrabarty and Mr Swapan Maitra along with thousands of supporters migrated to Trinamul Congress in recent past which has earned a frown for Congress. Now, the party is trying to prevent its erosion in Malda with the charisma of Mr Rahul Gandhi.

On the other hand two observers from AICC today started training the common Congress workers regarding the ensuing organisational election of youth Congress in the district. Mr G P Singh and Mr U Bhatia will act as the returning officers for south and North Malda constituency respectively and they will supervise the entire process of electing ten members from each booth and five members per block. They will complete the election Malda district youth Congress within a month as learnt from the sources.
