Axed TIC of Chanchal College Seeks Intervention of Chief Minister against ‘Left’ Administrator’s Ruling
MALDA, 16 NOV: The long standing controversies in Chanchal College took an interesting twist today with the removal of Dr Anita Chakraborty from the post of the teacher in charge (TIC). The new TIC Mr Gahul Amin, a teacher in chemistry, has not been handed over the charge by Mrs Chakraborty today.
This may be recalled that Chanchal College has been the centre of controversies morethan one and a half year as the teacher and staffs were sharply divided in two camps holding one another responsible for the unrest in the college. Dr Chakraborty herself led a faction with a section of part time teachers and non teaching staffs. She has been accused by a large number of permanent teachers of a number of discrepancies and running the college at her whims.
The permanent teachers even initiated a non-cooperation movement from January this year against Dr Chakraborty alleging that she had masterminded repeated physical assaults upon the teachers by her henchmen and bringing charges against her colleagues who had protested against her ‘autocratic’ activities.
The sub divisional officer (SDO) of Chanchal and the district administrations had to rush to Chanchal College several times to defuse tension. The permanent teachers and a number of guest teachers also lodged complaints with the University of Gour Banga (UGB) authorities a number of times. The varsity authorities also conducted an enquiries into the affairs the report of which did not go in favour of the TIC.
Dr Prantosh Sen was appointed as the administrator of the college a couple of months back and since then the battle between the administrator and the TIC came to the fore and finally came today’s removal.
Justifying the removal Dr Prantosh Sen said: “There was total pandemonium in Chanchal College for past few years and allegations were being heaped against Dr Chakraborty. The students, guardians and teacher all said that she was failed to manage the college.” Regarding the selection of Mr Amin as the new TIC Dr Sen said: “I sought everyone’s opinion and former secretary of the staff council was appointed the TIC as the senior most teacher.”
On the contrary Dr Chakraborty, after being axed, said: “I would .not accept the direction of the administrator who is a CPI-M partisan. I have been victimized only because I refused to comply with the unjust directives of red party (CPI-M).” She said that she would knock the door of the state social welfare minister Mrs Sabitri Mitra, state education minister Mr Bratya Basu and the chief minister Miss Mamata Banerjee. “I would now be on leave to avoid humiliations and continue by battle for justice,” said the removed TIC adding that she would not handover the charge under any circumstances to the new ‘illegally appointed’ TIC.
