Dalu Criticizes TMC for Not Proposing Pranab for Presidential Election

Malda, 25 May: Pranab Mukherjee does not need the Trinamul Congress support for being the President, claimed Malda MP Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury (Dalu). Batting for Union finance minister, Dalu, while talking to the media at Malda, said, “For a Bengali President we, six Bengal MPs would meet UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on 29 May. We want Pranabbabu as our presidential candidate.”

Regarding Mukherjee, Dalu said, “Some may demand for an apolitical intellectual in this post. But considering all the duties a President has to perform, Pranabbabu has no alternative. Some might argue for his need in active politics still, but it is the time for the best person to give the chair he deserves.” Regarding Trinamul supremo’s Mamata Banerjee’s reservation against Mukherjee and her preference for some others than  Mukherjee as presidential candidate, Khan Choudhury was categorical, “If Pranabbabu fights for the President post, we don’t need the support of TMC. In fact Congress itself has more than 54% votes required; besides, some more political parties are willing to support Mukherjee as President. This may include even the BJP and the Samajwadi Party.”

On the issue of petrol price hike also, Khan Choudhury made a dig at Trinamool. “It was required at the perspective of the world market. Rather the demand was shelved for long. But Trinamool is taking a populist stand by taking to the street on this issue. If they are really concerned to relieve the pain for the people, why doesn’t the state government wave the tax on fuel?”
