High Madrassah Teacher Shot Dead

Malda, 29 May: Huge sensation was created at Sujapur when a teacher of a high madrassah was shot dead in broad day light today. Superintendent of police Jayanta Pal himself raided Sujapur following the murder although none was arrested so far. Already political blame game started as the victim was claimed to be a member of CPI-M affiliate All Bengal Teachers’ Association (ABTA).

Mohammed Obaidullah (30) of village Brahmottar, a teacher of Dariapur High Madrasha went to market around 7.30 am. Suddenly a group of miscreants attacked him and fired indiscriminately. Obaidullah was shot on his chest and fell bleeding. People rushed on to the spot but the miscreants managed to escape. Injured teacher was taken to Malda District Hospital but he succumbed to his injury there.

It is learnt that joined as teacher three years back Obaidullah had married just six months back. His father in law Sekendar Alam said, “Obaidullah was an innocent soul and was never involved in a squabbles. It is beyond imagination he was such murdered.” His brother Sahidullah too was confused to realize why Obaidullah was murdered.

Meanwhile, district CPI-M secretary Ambar Mitra said, “Obaidullah was an active party worker. Whoever killed him should be arrested immediately. Or the murder politics would return to Sujapur.” Congress MP Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury too said, “Miscreants were roaming with arms openly but police could not arrest them. I’ve asked the Malda SP to arrest them immediately.”

Superintendent of police Jayanta Pal said, “On 4 April one Hyder Sheikh was critically injured after being shot at in Sujapur. Obaidullah’s name was associated with that murder. Primary investigation revealed that today’s murder is fallout of that. Probe is on.”  Mr Pal informed, “Police have been raiding in the area regularly to recover illegal arms. In past six months huge deal of firearms and bombs has been recovered. Hence, it can be said that police have been active in curbing crime in the locality.”
