Mausam Noor Seeks Central’s Intervention to Save YC Workers from Trinamul's 'Atrocities'
MALDA, 21 MAY: State Youth Congress (YC) president and north Malda MP Mausam Noor chose the 22nd death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to seek the intervention of the Union government to stop the killing of YC activists in the state. Mrs Noor also said that the YC would launch severe stir state wide if Trinamul Congress led government sticks to its decision of converting Indira Bhawan into Nazrul academy.
Mrs Noor today attended a programme organized by north Malda YC committee in English Bazaar where she garlanded the photograph of late Rajiv Gandhi. “Rajivji sacrificed his life fighting against terrorism and for preservation of national integration,” Mrs Noor said in her speech. “We the YC workers should keep ready to sacrifice ourselves to thwart any measure to belittle the contribution of the Gandhis to the making and shaping of modern India,” she said taking a dig at state government’s decision to alter the name of Indira Bhawan in Salt Lake.
Later, while speaking to media, Mrs Noor said, “We are ready to go any extent to retain the esteem of Indira Bhawan. There would be no compromise in this regard.” In a tone of warning the state YC president said, “It would be better for the state government to honour the sentiment of billions of YC workers across the country.”
Alleging that everyday hundreds of Congress workers are being subjected to violence by Trinamul and Maoists, Mrs Noor said, “We presented the victims in person before Rahul Gandhi who gave us green signal to organize strong movements against such brutalities.” “An YC activist Parimal Sardar was killed in Basirhat few days back. In Jadavpur also the Trinamul goons attacked the family of a Congress youth leader. President of an assembly YC committee in north 24 Paraganas are being accused of false cases while the Trinamul miscreants are hovering freely in front of police,” Mausam said in the same breath citing examples of Trinamul’s ‘atrocities.’
“We demand the intervention of the Union government as well as the Central Congress leadership to protect the YC supporters in the state,” Mausam Noor said adding that the only option open before the state YC is to organize mass movement against the state government.
