Namesake Trouble for Appointment !
MALDA, 26 APRIL: Being the namesake a fake candidate gets the government job only to be replaced at the last moment. The incident took place at Malda collectorate when one Dipankar Biswas of village Sankarpur under Gazole police station, got the appointment letter for the post of Group-D in District Magistrate’s office after his written test, interview under Public Service Commission. The medical test and police verification too was held duly before he was asked to join the service.
At the time of joining, however, discrepancy came out regarding his personal details. The father’s name did not match and the officers demanded his admit card for the test. But Dipankar could not produce it. Then the suspicion of the department led the block development officer (BDO) of Gazole to enquire about Dipankar. This enquiry revealed that there was another Dipankar Biswas residing in the same village. Son of Dinesh Biswas, Dipankar got the job while this Dipankar, son of Sadananda Biswas failed in the written test.
Both of them were old friends, studying in the same school and even taking the test for service together. They also ran a tutorial home together at Gazole. Taking this chance fake Dipankar seized the selection letter of his friend and approached duly for police verification and others. Now the entire fiasco was revealed and the process of appointing the genuine Dipankar got started.
Although administration top officials kept mum on this fiasco, the blame is put on police. “How did police verification fail to expose the truth? Was it done without visiting the village?” said an official.
However, district intelligence branch claimed that the racket at DM’s office was responsible for this. “We were asked to verify the details of Dipankar Biswas, son of Sadananda Biswas. The father’s name was also sent by the Collectorate and we verified it duly. Where is our fault?”
