Peaceful Bandh Has Mixed Effect in Malda

Malda, 31 May: India wide Bandh convened by the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had mixed effect in the district. The Bandh was altogether peaceful here. Though the government offices were open and employees were present, private offices, shops were closed. Traders didn't turn up in the market. State transport authorities arranged extra buses but private buses were not seen on the road. BJP and Trinamul Congress supporters took out rallies favouring and opposing today's bandh respectively. picketers were seen in front of government offices.

DM Dr Archana said, "There was over 99% presence in govt offices." SP, Malda Jayanta Pal said, "52 picketers were arrested in entire district. There was no untoward incident centering the bandh." It has been learnt that Bandh supporters allegedly broke a car in Habibpur.

BJP dist president Shyamchand Ghosh said, "Despite the joint prevention by administations and Trinamul, Bandh was successful in district."

 CPI-M dist secretary Ambar Mitra said, "We didn't support or oppose the bandh. But it seemed that people voluntarily responded to the call of bandh."

Dist Trinamul leader Dulal Sarkar said, "CPI-M and BJP jointly connived against the Trinamul led government which has no role in hiking petrol price. People have thwarted today's bandh."
