Poor Man Rescued Before Being Sacrificed, Three Arrested
MALDA, 24 APRIL: 50 years old man was rescued by the villagers when he was allegedly going to be sacrificed. Such a startling incident took place at Hatapara village under Bamangola police station. The police arrested three persons in connection with the incident.
It has been learnt that Swapan Lohar and his brother Subodh Lohar last night went to one poor Manik Lohar. They reportedly requested Manik to attend a puja to be performed by their father (Niranjan) for the benefit of the entire village. Manik did not find any reason to refuse the call.
Manik was asked to take a bath in the nearby pond where they too had a dip. After that he was offered something to eat, which he could not recognize. This resulted in numbing of his senses partially.
After a few moments the sound of drums might have brought him back to his senses and he sensed something unusual. He alleged that when he had raised a cry, the two brothers severely roughed him to silent him. However, the cry had already woken up the neighbours. The villagers rushed in to find Manik was being made ready for sacrifice. The trio fled away with the villagers coming there. Injured Manik was later rescued and police were informed. Manik was sent to Modipukur Health Centre at night itself.
This morning Manik went to police station and lodged an FIR against the trio. Police searched for the accused and finally found them hiding in a field. They were arrested.
Superintendent of police Jayanta Pal said, “Manik was compelled to take bath and vermilion was smeared on his forehead. It seems that the trio was attempting to sacrifice him.” Mr Pal informed: “We have arrested arrested the father and two sons and lodged a case against them.”
