Teacher Sentenced with 10 Years’ Term for Raping Minor Student

MALDA, 27 APRIL: A teacher and his friend were sentenced ten year imprisonment in charge of raping a Class VII girl. Today the Additional District Judge announced this punishment in sixth Fast track Court of Malda. The girl was raped back in September, 2011.

The lawyers of the girl, Koushik Pal and the government advocate Nikhil Behari Gupta informed that on 11 September, 2011, the Class VII girl of Gajole Moyna High School was invited by Gobinda Tarafdar, a para-teacher of the school. The latter offered her to give suggestion for the coming unit test of the school. The girl, who lived at village Moyna, came to the teacher’s house along with two friends. It is alleged that Tarafdar had a friend Kajal Sarkar at his house. The two friends of the girl were asked to leave and come in the afternoon while the girl was left alone in the house with the teacher and his friend.

It is alleged that after the friends went out, the girl was taken inside Tarafdar’s house. There in a room, first Tarafdar and then his friend raped the girl. The devastated girl returned home but could not speak anyone about her misfortune. She first divulged this to her married elder sister living at Raiganj over phone. From her the information reached her parents.  Her father Rajendranath Chakraborty, a quack doctor lodged an FIR against the duo.  Police arrested following the complaint. Sub inspector Bijoy Singh Ray submitted the charge sheet within 90 days.

After taking the witness of 16 persons, the Additional District Judge Prabir Kr Mishra of 6th Fast Track court today announced ten years imprisonment and Rs 2000 fine of the duo. However, the lawyer of the accused Tirtha Basu claimed that they would approach the higher court.

Expressively happy Rajen Chakraborty, the father of the girl, said: “Judiciary is still the last resort for poor people.”
