CP Locks Up Examinations Department of UGB Alleging Lack of Confidentiality

MALDA, 12 JULY: Demanding that confidentiality and credibility of the examinations department of the University of Gour Banga (UGB) is at a stake owing to the activities of a section of corrupt officers and employees, the Congress’ students’ wing Chatra Parishad (CP) today started a movement locking the controller of examinations (COE) department. CP district president Prasenjit Das alleged that vice chancellor (VC) Prof Achintya Biswas is keeping blind to the offenders.

Das alleged that a guard of the COE department Sanjay Saha noticed on 10 July evening that a contractual employee Biplab Mandal torn the confidential packet of answer scripts of university examinations secretly and was writing something on some of the answer-scripts. Saha sensing something foul brought the entire matter to the notice of the VC forthwith.

It was also alleged that Saha was rebuked by some varsity officers yesterday for appraising VC of the incident. The guards’ association again reported the matter to the VC.

Today as the matter came to the fore CP activists rushed to the UGB and locked COE department. Later CP district president Mr Das said, “A section of UGB employees and officials have formed a nexus and results of the general students are being tampered against huge transaction of money. Odd 12,000 examinees last time applied for reassessment but except around 1100 students, other examinees result was not reassessed properly.”

Blaming the VC Prof Biswas, Das said, “I personally informed the VC to hold an enquiry into the suspicious activities in the COE department. But he has preferred to remain in silent. We wonder if he is trying to save the skin of the offenders!”

VC Prof Biswas, however, denying the allegation of ‘inaction’ said, “As it prima face appeared that the contractual employee of the COE department was in fault, I’ve asked him not to attend office till the probe ordered against him is concluded.”
