CPI-M at War with Government and Administrations over Sports Associations
MALDA, 16 JULY: Keeping the district sports association (DSA) in front, district CPI-M is going to initiate a battle against the state government as well as the district administrations soon. In a meeting convened in the name of former players and some sports clubs CPI-M leaders declared that against the state government’s recent directive to dissolve the DSAs, a deputation would be served to the district magistrate on the third week of the month.
Though the yesterday’s meeting was convened by the sports-lovers, former players and sports-clubs, it was seen that veteran CPI-M leaders like Biswanath Ghosh, Dulal Chaki and others were leading the convention on the development of sports in the district.
DSA secretary Subhasish Sarkar was also seen present in the meeting. 22 clubs registered under the DSA, Malda also sent their representatives in the convention. It was alleged by the CPI-M leaders that keeping an eye on the ensuing election of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), the state government is asking the district administrations to influence the DSAs and Malda is no exception.
DSA secretary Mr Sarkar strongly criticizing the DM Dr Archana said, “It’s unfortunate that the DM who snatched away the charge of the DSA from us after the state government issued the directive, did nothing for the development of games and sports. Only a couple of days back she asked me over phone which sports were being held in Malda.” Mr Sarkar alleged that the district administrations were unnecessarily interfering into the activities of the DSA, an autonomous elected body. “It’s true that the DM is the ex-officio president of the DSA but we didn’t see her interest in games and sports till the state government issued the order. Now, she is playing a proactive role,” Mr Sarkar added.
He claimed that the state government is shamelessly indulging in promoting their party men though the ruling party promised to ensure democracy instead of party authority. “District school sports association (DSSA) is now under the clutch of Trinamul Congress. Trinamul leaders Masidur Rahaman and Santanu Saha have been nominated the chairman and acting president respectively of DSSA,” Mr Sarkar said.
Giving a sharp reaction Mr Saha said, “DSSAs and DSAs were so far ruled by some people with vested interests. They had passed some bi-laws in their favour ignoring the state government. Now the state government wants to formulate a uniform law for all DSAs and DSSAs and that’s why those people are suffering from fear that their corruptions would be bat a stake.”
Regarding nominations of Trinamul leaders into sports committees, Mr Saha, a member of state sports council said, “We have learnt the political nominations from CPI-M. In CPI-M regime Biswanath Ghgosh, CPI-M MLA was the member of the state sports council and he along with the district CPI-M secretary Ambar Mitra were the members of the district sports council.”
