Malda Station to Get Two New Platforms and a Surat Bound Train
MALDA, 3 JULY: To cope up with the increase in the number of trains that ply through Malda and to felicitate better convenience of passengers, the railway authorities decided to construct two more platforms in Malda town station.
Presently there are only five platforms while 49 pairs of trains move through Malda. But as there less number of platforms to accommodate these trains, sometimes a good number of trains are kept standing either in Gour Malda or Old Malda stations for long time.
As the trains kept waiting for long time, passengers often start agitation and sometimes the railway employees are victimized by the angry passengers. This has also made railway authorities constructing two additional platforms, sources said.
Divisional railway manager (DRM) of Malda division R Gupta said that the work would commence soon. Rs 90 lakh has already been sanctioned for the construction of platforms.
Mr Gupta also said that in 2011-2012 the division earned Rs 460 crore while the amount of expenditure was Rs 467 crore. Hence, there was a loss of Rs 7 crore. However, he hoped that from this year the division would earn profit.
Meanwhile, Malda – Surat weekly express train would start its journey from 7 July. As per the notifications of eastern railways the train would start from Malda on 7 July and it would return from Surat on 9 July. Since then the train would start from Malda from every Saturday and from Surat on every Monday. There would be 15 coaches in the train and the train would leave at 12.50 pm.
This may be mentioned that the railway minister Mukul Roy announced the introduction of the train in his budget speech. The booking of this new train has already been started from 30 June.
