Notorious Bank Robbery Gang Busted

MALDA, 10 JUNE: District police have attained notable success in busting a interstate bank robbery syndicate by arresting notorious dacoits. Police officials believe that their arrest would prevent many other bank robberies. In addition police administrations have been meeting the officials of the banks located in rural areas to discuss how the security arrangements can be beefed up.

This may be mentioned that more than Rs 52 lakh was looted from a Chanchal branch of Bangiya Gramin Vikash Bank (BGVB) on 28 May midnight. Dacoits attempted to rob rural banks at Kajigram in English Bazaar and Bulbulchandi in Habibpur before too. Previously, rural banks in Gazole and Harischandrapur were attempted by the robbers.

After the formidable robbery in Chanchal police of different police stations in Malda made a joint operation. Superintendent of police Jayanta Pal said, “Three notorious criminals – Bishu Pasoan, Siraj and ‘Kana’ (blind) Bablu were arrested in the first phase. Later, police arrested Sahidul Rahamn of Kaliachak, Bhola Singha of Pakua, Robiul Hossain and Hansaraj Mandal of Chanchal and Jan Mohammed of Ratua. Rs 3.25 lakh and two brand new motorcycles were recovered from the culprits.”

Mr Pal also informed that three more ferocious dacoits hid in Bihar and extensive raids were being made to arrest them. “The local dacoits used to help the robbers from Bihar and used have share of the looted amount,” the SP informed. “The gang had the plan of robbing other banks too,” he said.

Mr Pal said that it was success of the joint operation made by different police stations under leadership of the sub divisional police officer of Chanchal and the additional SP Shyam Singh.

He also added that the officials of the banks located in different rural areas of the district are being met and cautionary measures were being suggested to prevent robbery. “We have already met the bank officials of Kaliachak, Sujapur, Baishnabnagar and English Bazaar. We would also meet the bank officials of Gazole, Habibpur, Bamangola, Chanchal, Ratua, Manikchak and all other blocks,” SP, Malda said.
