Police Security Provided to Public Prosecutor
MALDA, 22 JUNE: District police provided security personnel for the public prosecutor Asitbaran Chaudhuri after he was allegedly humiliated by the English Bazaar Congress MLA Krishnendu Choudhury on 20 June at the court room. Mr Chaudhuri sought security reporting the entire incident in writing from the superintendent of police. Meanwhile, bar association would convene a heneral meeting in this regard on 28 June.
This may be mentioned that MLA Choudhury allegedly attacked the Public Prosecutor (PP) and tried to assault him entering into in the court room. PP lodged a complaint to superintendent of police and sought security for his life. PP alleged that MLA was threatening his other panel members on a murder case against him. MLA on the other hand refused the allegation of threat and assault and claimed that PP had sought bribe of Rs 5 lakh from him and also from other people and he only protested against that.
Soon after the incident PP was provided personal security personnel as well as at his office. PP Chaudhuri, however, said, “People of Malda are my security. Police cannot give one absolute security which is given by common people.” He informed that he has reported the entire incident to the state government in writing through the district magistrate.
Meanwhile, Bar association of Malda would meet in a general meeting on 28 June after MLA Choudhury brought allegation of corruption against the PP. The secretary of the bar association Hyder Ali said, “A meeting of the executive body was held on the day of occurrence in the evening. There it was decided that the matter would be placed in the general meeting on 28 June.”
MLA who was in assembly today said over phone, “I have informed the matter to the law minister Malay Ghatak. I have also made a plea to the bar association and I would be present on 28 June in person in the general meeting as a member of the association.” “After seeing the development I would take up the matter with the state government also as there many allegations of demanding money against the PP,” Choudhury said.
Superintendent of police Jayanta Pal said, “We have provided security to the PP as he requested us.”
