SFI Activists again Heckle Principal and Teachers of Kaliachak College
MALDA, 6 JULY: Arrested following the complaint from college but soon bailed out thanks to police. Now the students took on the college principal with the demand to revoke the decision of expelling a student caught copying in the exam hall. All this makes the teachers of Kaliachak College scared to continue invigilation in exam hall.
Two days back a lady teacher of this college along with Principal was assaulted, college ransacked when a student was caught copying during the 3rd year examination under University of Gour Banga (UGB). Police along with block development officer (BDO) had to interfere to control the situation. Next day college authority lodged a complaint against four students including the CPI-M affiliate SFI run students’ union general secretary and office bearers. They were arrested by Kaliachak Police. But to the utter dismay of the college authority all of them got released on bail yesterday.
Today, SFI led students again gheraoed the Principal Bijoya Mishra and demanded to withdraw the student’s expulsion. Irate students used abusive words and threatened the teachers with dire consequence. Ms Mishra alleged that police were mere spectators. Later BDO Tamojit Chakraborty rushed to college and lifted the agitation with the help of police. Ms Mishra said, “The teachers are unwilling to vigil in the exam hall on the face of such agitation.” BDO assured of more police protection from the next day. On the other hand Trinamul Chhatra Parishad reacted sharply on the role of SFI in the college and demanded punishment of the erring students. “How can the students arrested in charge of assaulting teachers get bail?” said Amlan Bhaduri of Trinamul. SFI leaders of the district however, maintained reticence on this issue.
