UGB Inspection Team Denied Entry in Examination Halls in Chanchal College
MALDA, 6 JULY: The invigilation team from the University of Gour Banga (UGB) was denied entry to the examination halls in Chanchal College to see if the university examinations were going on properly. While the Chanchal College authorities justified their decision, controller of examinations (COE) of UGBhas said that the entire matter has been informed to the registrar and the vice chancellor (VC).
This may be mentioned that the 3rd year graduation final examinations of the UGB commenced from 26 June and would continue till 10 July. An inspection team of the varsity has been visiting different colleges to supervise the proper conduction of examinations.
But yesterday while the team comprising Prof Krishna Guha, Prof Mandira Chakraborty and one more professor entered Chanchal College, teacher in charge (TIC) of the college Prof Gahul Amin barred them from inspecting examination halls. The team had to return keeping the inspection incomplete.
Justifying his action Prof Amin said, “The team members gave a letter on a white paper signed by Dr Anita Chakraborty, a teacher of our college. I have heard that Dr Chakraborty was appointed a coordinator of the examinations by the UGB authorities. But there was no official intimation regarding her appointment to our college. Hence, we allotted her examinations duties.” “How can I honour a letter of a teacher of our college who is sending the varsity team!” he wondered adding that on 4 July the varsity team violating the norms entered the examination halls directly without visiting the principal’s chamber first and showing the competent authorities’ letter.
“I was not available in college on 4 July. If I were there, I wouldn’t have allowed them to visit examination halls on that day also,” Prof Amin said informing he didn’t receive any further communication from UGB in this regard. He claimed that the examinations in his college was going on strictly and smoothly.
Administrator of Chanchal College Dr Prantosh Sen also said, “Dr Anita Chakraborty was not released from college. Hence, it’s a question how she was appointed in the varsity’s examinations cell without her employer’s prior permission!”
Dr Chakraborty , however, said, “Everything was made in strict adherence of varsity rules. It’s unfortunate the varsity inspection team was returned. A report would be submitted by the team shortly.”
COE Dr RK Dey said, “The team was denied entry yesterday. I have informed the higher authorities about this.”
