Congress Expels Krishnendu Associates even before Oath Taking
Malda, November 21, 2012:Little before just former Congress MLA Krishnendu Choudhury was sworn in as a cabinet minister today; district congress committee (DCC) took stern measures against two veteran Congress leaders very close to Choudhury by expelling them from the Congress. Those two leaders, however, said that DCC did not have the authority to expel them from the party and demanded enquiry against some DCC leaders allegedly involved in corruption.

“Malda town Congress president Debapriya Saha and district Chhatra Parishad (CP) president have been expelled from the Congress for anti-party activities following an instruction from the DCC president and Union minister of state for health and family planning AH Khan Choudhury (Dalu),” said Mosraque Alam, the general secretary and spokesman of the DCC in presence of another DCC general secretary Narendranath Tiwary.
Alam in an emergent press meet said, “Tiwary has been appointed the new Malda town Congress president by Dalu Da. A new district CP chief also would be appointed soon by him.” In the same breath he said that Mr Choudhury and his associates betrayed the people by joining the Trinamool despite being elected as a Congress candidate in the assembly election. “He has resigned as an MLA won as Congress candidate. But why he retains the post of chairman of English Bazaar Municipality (EBM) which he got as a Congress councilor? He should quit as a councilor too proving his morality,” Alam added.
He hinted that the Congress in imminent by-election in English Bazaar assembly constituency accuse Choudhury for incurring the expenses of another ‘untimely’ and ‘unwanted’ election for which the common people would have to pay.
Saha, on the contrary, claimed, “The duo (Alam and Tiwary) and Dalu Babu have no right to expel me as I’m a member of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). Only the PCC president can decide about my expulsion. Hence, the expulsion is invalid.”
“As per the Congress constitution one has to be asked to show cause before suspension or expulsion. In our case it was not done. Dalu Babu may not know the party constitution as he joined the party directly coming from Switzerland,” Saha bantered saying that even an enemy of nation Azmal Kasav was given the right to self defense but he was not.
Hinting that they would try to discomfort Alam and Tiwary, the expelled leader Saha said, “We would demand complete enquiry into land scam of EBM during 2007 to 2011. Similarly, intelligence enquiry would be sought into cheating unemployed youths in the name of appointing them in Zilla Parishad by a Congress Karmadhakshya.” Notably, Tiwary was the EBM chairman in the said period and Alam is a Congress Karmadhakshya.
