Cong Keeps Agitating against TMC Ministers in Malda

Malda,Dec 19: Congress agitation against minister Goutam Deb went unabated for the third day when he went to lay foundation of a road at Birnagar under Kaliachak-3 block. On the ground of keeping Congress MLA away from the programme angry Congress workers showed black flag to the minister. Soon the local TMC workers were involved in a clash with the Congress workers. Finally police had to resort to lathicharge to control the mob before the minister. Fumed local Congress MLA Isha Khan Choudhury described it “illegal”.

Worse, the stage of the govt programme was covered with TMC flag which miffed the minister who addressed the gathering without taking the stage.

It may be recalled that Deb, Minister of North Bengal Development has been in Malda for last three days laying foundation of as many as 14 projects. But in none of the cases, local MLAs were invited. On 16th December at Old Malda, Congress supporters first staged demonstration against Deb. Yesterday MP Mousam Noor accused TMC of politicizing the issue of development. Buoyed with Noor’s statement yesterday, today hundreds of Congress supporters gathered at the stage at Birnagar where Deb reached around 10.30 am and began to shout slogans against him and the state govt.

Isha Khan Choudhury, although not present in the spot said in Malda, “I find no wrong with the agitation of the local Congress supporters. The work is being done under BRGF scheme of Central Govt. even leaving aside the courtesy issue; I must say it is a rule to invite MLA in such programme. It is no party programme.” He vowed to take up the issue to assembly and the Governor.

Meanwhile, flanked with Vice Chairman of English Bazaar Municipality Dulal Sarkar when Deb reached the spot it was found that the entire stage was covered with TMC flag. Disgusted minister ordered to remove them. Finally he addressed the gathering without taking the stage.

Regarding the Congress agitation Deb said, “I have nothing to say about those who want to criticize keeping themselves away. Had they have the good will they would have participated in developmental projects.”
