Cong Makes Scathing Attack on TMC Minister
MALDA, 10 DEC: District Congress leaders today set the tune of ensuing by-election of English Bazaar assembly constituency after their former MLA Krishnendu Choudhury quit the Congress and became a cabinet minister in the Trinamul Congress led state government.
“Those who have deserted us to be ministers in state govt, are to enjoy their position for only a few months”, said Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury (Dalu). In a scathing attack to Minister in charge of Tourism cum chairman of English Bazaar Municipality Krishnendu Choudhury, Dalu said, “He played the most opportunist role. Congress gave him all the prestige—making MLA and Chairman of the English Bazaar Municipality and selecting him as secretary in PCC. Still he deserted us with an alibi of prestige.”
In a meeting attended by more than 10000 at Bagbari, Dalu along with the MLAs like Sabina Yeasmin, Arjun Halder, Asif Mehboob, Sushil Roy, Manwar Hossain and other district leaders was vocal against Krishnendu. Although described as panchayet meet, the meeting turned to be curtain raiser of assembly by-election. It may be noted, the resignation of Krishnendu Choudhury as MLA paved the way for by-election in this seat within six months.
In a tone of begging forgiveness from the voters, speakers were all against Krishnendu’s opportunist move. Dalu said, “Malda is a known Congress ground. Even I stand here with a ticket of other party, I’ll lose. Let Krishnendu know that his victory in the last assembly election was that of Congress and Malda people will never forgive such a deserter. In a few months it will be clear to all and he (Krishnendu) will have nowhere to go.”

Mrs Yeasmin, in her attack to state government said, “The Chief Minister does not allow anyone to work. In my stint as minister I saw that CM has no faith on ministers. Now who have joined her party leaving Congress cannot see the writing on the wall. In factTrinamul itself is being split up and people are coming under the Congress fold.”
Mr Hossain said, “Krishnendu could not realize his position and tried to challenge the authority of Daluda. Let the people of English Bazaar teach him a lesson by defeating him in highest margin. He should lose his deposit in the election.” Buoyed by the huge presence of supporters, the speakers vowed to organize a similar meeting at English Bazaar town with Union Ministers like Adhir Choudhury and Deepa Dasmunshi. However, contrary to popular expectation, the leadership was reticent on naming the candidate against Krishnendu Choudhury.
Krishnendu Choudhury on the issue of Congress meeting quipped, “Finally they acknowledged the importance of me by holding a meeting with so many leaders against me!”
