School Children on Street Demanding ‘Justice,’ Two Accused in Kaliachak Rape Case Arrested


MALDA, 23 DEC: Like rest of country the school children today demanding stern punishment and exemplary punishments of rapists of New Delhi and Kaliachak. Meanwhile, police arrested two persons including the principal accused in minor girl rape case in Kaliachak on 20 December. They were produced in court today and sent to jail custody till 5 January as learnt from police sources.

This may be mentioned that   the victim, the only daughter among three children of a farmer and was a student of Bamangram H M High School after returning from school was going to her aunt’s house on 20 December. On way, near the football ground a taxi came to her and one Kalam Sheikh, a student of Kaliachak College and his associates came down. They allegedly offered the girl a lift in the taxi but she refused. Miffed the youths allegedly picked her up forcefully showing a revolver. Her mouth was also allegedly stuffed with clothes to stop her from crying.

Picking up the girl the miscreants allegedly took her to a local hotel. There she was allegedly raped for the whole night by number of youths.

On 21 December morning she was released at Baliadanga crossing. The devastated girl managed to go to her aunt’s house and disclosed everything. Then the incident came to notice of the local people. They went to Kaliachak Police Station to lodge a complaint against Kalam and his associates. 

After a written complaint was lodged with Kaliachak police station, police went raiding in search of the accused and Kalam Sheikh and Mujahar Ali BiswasBiswas, the owner of the lodge guest house were arrested by police.

SP, Malda Jayanta Pal said that the accused were produced in court today and sent to jail custody. “Necessary medical exmaninations are going on,” Mr Pal informed.

Meanwhile, changing claims of the woman who was allegedly raped on 20 December at Purba Para village of Chandmoni area under Ratua police station have confused police.

SP, Mr Pal said, “Primarily a complaint of attempt to rape was lodged. Later, the woman claimed she was raped. The doctor’s report again revealed that the woman was assaulted.”

“We are conducting a thorough enquiry into the case and though the accused are on run, they would soon be arrested,” Mr Pal added.

Meanwhile, school children of English Bazaar today organized a rally demanding exemplary punishment of the accused in Delhi gang rape case as well as Kaliachak minor girl rape case. The school children with the placards and “we want justice” slogans traversed  the main roads of Malda town.
