First Ever Body Donation in Malda by former CPI-M Sabhadhipati
Malda, March 6: District witnesses the first ever body-donation today in the interest of the medical science when the family of former sabhadhipati of Malda Zilla Parishad (MZP) Soumen Pandey, who died today after prolonged ailment, donated his body to Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH).
Pande (75) was only sabhadhipati of MZP who retained the post for two consecutive terms. He recently signed the agreement to donate his body after his death to MMCH through a voluntary organization Jyotishko. It may be mentioned that several other CPI-M leaders followed his example and agreed to donate their bodies in the interest of medical research.
After Pandey died around 9 am today, senior district Left Front leaders including the chairman of district LF Jiban Maitra, district CPI-M secretary Ambar Mitra, former CPI-M MLAs Samar Roy, Biswanath Ghosh, councilor Subhadip Sanyal, English Bazaar panchayet samity sabhapati Ekram Hossain and others rushed to his house.
His body was taken to district CPI-M office and MZP as well. The employees of MZP paid floral tribute to Pandey. English Bazaar Municipality councilors of Trinamul Congress to paid their last respect to Pandey Tourism minister Krishnendu Choudhury sent a condolence letter to Pandey’s family.
Later his body was taken to MMCH and as per his last wish Pandey’s body was donated to MMCH authorities.
District LF chairman Maitra said, it was the first ever instance of body-donation after death. “Pandey has pioneered the body-donation movement in the district and he would be ever remembered by his modern outlook and generosity,” Maitra said.
