Congress Demonstrate and Rally before Rebel Cong MLA's house
Malda, 8 February, 2014: More than 300 Congress supporters today organized a rally at Gazole and demonstrated in front of rebel Congress MLA Sushil Roy’s house as he had voted in favour of Trinamool Congress in Rajya Sabha election against the Congress candidate. However, no untoward incident took place a large contingent of police led by DSP Siddharth Dorji was deployed before Roy’s house.
The Congress supporters held a rally too and later held a meeting. District Congress general secretary Soumitra Roy said, “Sushil Roy was elected an MLA as a Congress candidate. But later we heard that he indulged in corruption. We warned him to abstain from corruption as Congress always believes in transparency. So, he preferred to change loyalty from Congress to TMC.”
Saumitra Roy further added, “No grass-root Congress worker is with Sushil Roy. Party is more important than an individual. Roy claimed that he supported TMC for the sake of development. He has to prove his claim now.”
Other Congress leaders claimed that Roy’s defection would have no influence in ensuing parliamentary election.
Sushil Roy, however, claimed today’s agitation by Congress was merely a manifestation of their frustration. “I was a loyal Congress soldier. But it was my experience that the Congress leaders of the district are rootless and have no concern for development.”
“Gazole was always neglected in Left Front regime. Union Congress minister too did not do anything for Gazole. Hence, to ensure development of Gazole I deemed it fit to support Trinamool,” he clarified.
He informed that the chief minister Mamata Banerjee had promised her to develop Gazole. “State government has assured that there Gazole would be upgraded to a municipality. Moreover, a women’s college would be established here. People of Gazole wants development and not Congress,” he said.
