Medical College Principal Show-caused for Attending Trinamul's campaign meeting

MALDA, APR 7: Principal of Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) Dr Shaibal Mukherjee was served a show-cause notice for being present in a meeting of Trinamool Congress affiliate Progressive Doctors’ Association (PDA) where the speakers including two Trinamul ministers sought votes in favour of the party candidates in two Lok Sabha constituencies of the district.

Dr Mukherjee admitted that he received the show-cause letter today and submitted the report too to the DM and district election officer Sharad Dwivedi as he was asked to reply the letter within 24 hours. However, he refused to speak more in this regard.

Dwivedi said that during the meeting a camera team was sent to Malda town hall and the recording was seen. Accordingly, a list of the attendees was prepared and action was being taken in adherence with model code of conduct of election commission.

“We have received the MMCCH principal’s reply and would go through it. Thereafter we would prepare a report and would send that to the EC,” Dwivedi added.

Whether other government employee doctors were present in the meeting would be strongly scrutinized from the video and necessary action would be taken, administrative sources informed.
