Malda Congress veteran passes away




Malda, 8 October, 2014: Veteran Congress leader and one of the 11 founder members of Chhatra Parishad, Nikhil Behari Gupta (80) expired on Tuesday night in a private nursing home here after a brief illness. Gupta, a renowned pleader as well, held several responsible positions of district and state Congress committee during his political career of six decades. In 1970 he contested as the Congress candidate in English Bazaar assembly constituency. He also acted as the election agent of Pranab Mukherjee who contested in Lok Sabha election from Malda in 1977. Gupta also served as the president of Malda bar association for several terms. His body was cremated on Wednesday after many of his admirers paid their last tribute to him. Food processing minister Krishnendu Choudhury, Congress MP Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury and several luminaries expressed grief over Gupta's demise.
