Trinamul ministers and leaders attack District president in Malda

Malda, 25 September, 2014: Rift in the district Trinamul Congress was exposed once again on Thursday after food processing minister and English Bazaar municipality (EBM) vice chairman accused district Trinamul president Dr Moazzem Hossain of ‘inaction and keeping the party leaders in dark.’ Interestingly, minister Sabitri Mitra too endorsed Mr Choudhury’s allegations against Dr Hossain.

No wonder, Dr Hossain rubbished the complaints against him and said that the ministers rather had apathy in attending meetings at the party office.

It may be mentioned that Dr Hossain replaced former district Trinamul president Mitra after party’s debacle in both the Lok Sabha seats in Malda. Though Choudhury Choudhury and Mitra welcomed the party supremo Mamata Banerjee’s decision of appointing Dr Hossain, it was evident from their gestures that the new district Trinamul president would have a tough time at his position.

Choudhury todayu said, “Since he assumed chair of district president not a single large scale programme has not yet been taken. Many party workers do not know wherefrom the new president runs the party. But I have heard that former office of a chit-fund company has been turned into his office.”

“Chief minister candidly instructed him to take decisions after discussions with two ministers from Malda. But we are in dark. We have no idea about the party programmes. Such inaction would not be beneficial for the party,” Choudhury added.

Mitra too alleged that Dr Hossain never communicated any party programme to her. “It is very unfortunate that he never takes us in confidence. He has opened a separate party office somewhere in English Bazaar and spends time there only. Such isolation has caused frustrations among the party workers,” she said.

District working presidents Prativa Singh and Dulal Sarkar also expressed concern at party’s dismal condition in the district. “District president does not even care to receive my phone. I wonder how he runs the party at his whims!” Singh said.

Mr Sarkar, who is also the EBM vice chairman, again blamed Dr Hossain and the btwo ministers equally. “On one hand Dr Hossain prefers to run the party in his own style ignoring all the party leaders, on the other hand the two ministers are also working at their whims. If such detrimental trend continues, party’s performance in forthcoming municipal poll in the district would be highly affected,” Sarkar said.

Dr Hossain, defending himself said, “I informed all about the new office. Some of them may have some personal problems in visiting the party office. But it is unfortunate that a responsible minister tried to invent a link between the party office and a chit-fund company’s office.” He informed that after Durga Puja he would be sitting with all party leaders to resolve their grievances.”
