Four injured in Manikchak land clash, CPM-TMC blame each other
Malda, 5 February, 2015: At least four persons were injured in a clash over land in Kalitola village of Gopalpur gram panchayat in Manikchak police station today around 8 am. Two injured were claimed to be CPI-M supporters while the other two including a woman were known to be Trinamul Congress supporters.
Police sources informed that there had been an old tiff between Asraful Ali and Nuhu Ali over ownership of a land. Both of them were in CPI-M before but after the change in state government Asraful Ali joined the Trinamul Congress.
The clash further erupted this morning when Asraful Ali and his supporters allegedly attacked Nuhu and his group members. One Dulal Sheikh belonging to CPI-M was reportedly shot at. Another Hannan Sheikh belonging to Nuru’s group was injured too. Dulal was admitted to Malda Medical College Hospital.
In counter attack a woman, relative of Asraful Ali and one of his henchmen were injured too. Asraful’s house was ransacked by the opponents.
Both the clashing groups lodged complaints against each other with Manikchak police station. CPI-M leader Debajyoti Sinha alleged that Trinamul backed goons organized attack on CPI-M supporters leaving two of them injured.
Manikchak MLA and minister Sabitri Mitra however rubbished the allegation and said that the incident had no connection to politics.
SP Prasun Banerjee said that police were probing into both the complaints. None has yet been booked, Mr Banerjee said.
