Krishnendu and Sabitri offended with ICDS work in the district
Malda, 15 February, 2015: Two ministers from Malda Sabitri Mitra and Krishnendu Choudhury expressed strong discontent with the activities of ICDS (Integrated child development scheme) workers in the district during a meeting with the DM today.
While food processing and horticulture minister Mr Choudhury alleged that some officials had been furnishing ‘false reports,’ relief and rehabilitation minister Sabitri Mira demanded that those ICDS workers who had been working in the same centre for years together should be transferred for better services to malnourished women and their babies.
The two ministers expressed discontents during a review meeting held at the district administrative headquarter in presence of DM Sharad Dwivedi.
After the child development project officer (CDPO) of English Bazaar block Pankaj Biswas furnished his report, Mr Choudhury reportedly excited challenged the authenticity of the report. Mr Choudhury said, “I am also the chairman of English Bazaar municipality. But I am in dark about where the CDPO held the meetings as claimed by him at the urban areas.”
He further alleged that many ICDS centres were not functioning properly. Authority should look into the actual state of affairs, he said.
Mrs Mitra too was quite vocal about the ‘irregularities’ at the ICDS centre particularly at her assembly constituency. “There are many workers who have been working in the same centre for more than ten or twelve years and even in some cases more than 25 years. According to policy they should be transferred,” Mrs Mitra said.
She also said, “There is lack of workers in many centres. Hence those centres are not running properly,” she added.
DM Sharad Dwivedi however did not comment regarding the fury of the ministers. “The ministers offered some suggestions who would be followed up,” Mr Dwivedi said.
