Molestation slur on Gazole TMCP leaders after protesting against smoking in College
Malda, 9 February, 2015: A girl-official of students’ union of Gazole College was heckled and molested allegedly by the leaders and workers of Trinamul Chhatra Parishad after she protested against their smoking and irritating the girls. General secretary (GS) of the students’ union Ranjit Roy and others who tried to rescue the girl were allegedly roughed up too. The students blocked NH-34 for nearly an hour in the afternoon and lodged a police complaint against TMCP leaders Jaydeb Rajbanshi and Prasun Roy.
TMCP leader Roy, no wonder, denied the allegation and threatened to lodge counter complaint against SFI and Chhatra Parishad (CP) supporters.
In her complaint to the police the girl official of the students’ union alleged that when she went to college canteen today, TMCP leader Rajbanshi and some outsiders, who were smoking there, threw puff at her face. “As I protested, they threatened me with dire consequences. Within 10 minutes Gazole block TMCP president Prasun Roy rushed into the college and molested me In public. They even abused me in filthy language,” she alleged.
GS of the college Ranjit Roy and others then rushed to the spot to rescue their union colleague. He said, “Prasun Roy, Jaydev Rajbanshi and other TMCP workers then directed their attack towards us. We were assaulted too.”
In protest against alleged attack by TMCP SFI and CP supporters started blocking NH-34 in front of Gazole College. Police had to rush to the spot to lift the blockade. Later, the girl lodged a police complaint against five persons including TMCP block president Prasun Roy and Jaydev Rajbanshi.
However, accused TMCP leader Roy defended himself and claimed that the allegation of smoking was a baseless one. “Jaydev is a teetotaler. Inspection of CCTV footage would reveal the truth,” he said claiming that the a counter complaint would be ldged against SFI and CP leaders.
SP Prasun Banerjee said, “There was a incident in Gazole College. Police went to the spot to take stock of the situation. A probe has been initiated.”
