Police dog cracks minor girl’s rape and murder case
Malda, 12 February, 2015: Police eventually cracked the rape and murder case of a minor girl in Gazole. A youth Goutam Roy (20) was arrested by police last night with the help of a sniffing-dog of the department. He was produced in court on Thursday and taken into police remand for six days.
It may be mentioned that decomposed body of the minor girl Shilpi Bhowmick (11), a student of class VI was recovered from a mustard field on 30 January. She remained missing for seven days. After the girl’s father and a grocer Arun Chowmick lodged a police complaint, police started a probe and remained clueless for more than tenm days. Even the villagers blocked road demanding the arrest of the culprit.
Police engaged a sniffing-dog on 4 February to speed up the enquiry. SP Prasun Banerjee said, “The dog repeatedly entered the house of the arrested youth which concentrated our suspicion. The youth and her mother were grilled before but they did not divulge anything. On Wednesday again the sniffing-dog entered the youth’s house only half a kilometer away from the girl’s house. The youth was rigorously grilled again and he admitted the crime last night.”
Police have come to know in the primary investigation that the girl was abducted by the accused when she went to neighbouring Gosaibari village. She was then raped several times and then strangulated to death. The body was recovered after seven days, said the SP.
The parents of the demanded exemplary punishment of the culprit. SP Mr banerjee said that the accused was taken into remand for further interrogation.
