UGB to observe 8th foundation day by holding seminars

Malda, 8 February, 2015: University of Gour Banga (UGB) is going to observe its 8th foundation day on 19 February by organizing several speeches on pertinent topics. However, the education minister Partha Chatterjee, who was supposed to inaugurate the central library named after Acharya Bidhu Seskhar Shastri and the humanities building dedicated to the memory of Acharya BBinay Sarkar, has called off its programme as the assembly would be in session then.

Vice chancellor (VC) Prof Gopal Mishra informed that renowned scholar and emeritus professor Tapodheer Bhattacharya would be attending the foundation day programme as the guest in chief.

“Prof Bhattacharya is the former VC of Assam Central University and former Rabindranath chair of Delhi University. His distinguishing presence would indeed be a honour for the varsity,” UGB VC said.

He added that on 20 January Prof Bhattacharya would speak on “Contemporary higher education at the cross road. “On 20 January he would address a seminar on ‘Sahitya path o tatwer prayog’ (studying literature and application of literary theory) to be organized by Bengali and English departments. He would also attend on workshop on NAAC (National assessment and accreditation council) where he would answer questions by the teachers and students,” Prof Mishra informed.

The UGB VC further said that Prof Mahua Mukherjee from Rabindra Bharati University and her team would present ‘Gouriya Dance’ on 21 February at UGB campus on occasion of the internation language day.
